No one speaks and no one tries

Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can

Pink Floyd (formed 1965 in Cambridge, United Kingdom) is a British band noted for and music, philosophical lyrics, compositions, sonic experimentation, innovative cover art and elaborate live shows. I’ve completed the Skills Camp 2008 at Joshua Tree National Park. It was extremely fun and I got a chance to use a lot of the new gear I bought including but not limited to:

 Kelty Crestone 2 Tent

It’s been all quiet on this site of late as pointed out by ojuice. I’ve been working a lot more and when I’m not working I try to keep a routine. I tinkered with the armory xml: http://quietdespair.com/alts/. View the source to see what else I’m parsing. So that was kind of fun for a short while. I got a ginormous raise at work, which was exactly what I needed.

Disruption

Ξ July 7th, 2007 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Status Update, News from the front, Server Stuff, Special Attention Required |

I will be moving tomorrow to somewhere in central Orange County. I can’t say where, because its Tustin Ranch. I’m not sure yet if it’s a real city. Anyway, my point is that some services will be disrupted while enterprise is being moved. DNS should be fine, but obviously anything thats hosted or running on enterprise will be unreachable. I should be setting up enterprise’s replacement in the next couple of weeks, with an actual data center for it to live at.

Infrastructure

Ξ January 30th, 2007 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Tech, News from the front, Server Stuff, policy |

So in this new place the network is as follows: a cable modem -> wifi router. Presently I’m the only one hard wired in.
What I’d really like to do is increase the upload speed, and obviously the download speed, add a relay or use the same type of router already in use here to repeat the wireless signal. I dont have the foggiest idea of how to go about setting up one to be an AP, but I imagine a few minutes of trial and error should do the trick. My alternative to this is microwave dishes to broadcast the signal for a few miles more than I want.
If any of you have experience in hooking up two wifi routers/APs to spread the wealth, please send a few pointers my way.
Once I have the wireless signal closer to what I’d like to experience, I’m going to push for a faster […]

Moved

I’ve relocated my base of operations to Anaheim Hills, off Canyon Rim for the time being. I assure you this is all part of a master plan that I’ll soon let my brain know the details of. So don’t fear the rr.com hostname. We should be getting some additional bandwidth soon, I’ll keep you posted.

LAN RSVP 2.0

Ξ December 15th, 2006 | → 0 Comments | ∇ News from the front |

I’m still working on LAN RSVP 2.0. Its one of many thousands of projects partially done. If you have any suggestions or recommendations, please comment here. I will either implement them or discard them as the drunken ramblings. When I have a suitable version for testing, I will reveal the hostname it’s reachable at. Some of you may already know it. You will forget it, that’s an order.
I also would appreciate a link to any registration systems you’ve used that have at least one good idea. This is not to say I dont have plenty of ideas already, I’ve a few pages of handwritten notes and plenty of coding done.

Or instead, use this opportunity to talk about how by this point I’m willing to settle for a point and shoot digital camera. Like the Nikon Coolpix S9. However, for just a few dollars more, and I’m not even talking about the price of a dinner out at a moderately priced restaurant.
You probably have the cash in your wallet right now. For those few extra dollars, the S7c could be in your hands, briefly before you wrap it up for me.
No, you know what? I don’t even want it wrapped. I don’t even want it in the box.
It’s not as though I’d cry if a D80 or D50 didn’t magically fall from the sky into my arms. Not very much at any rate.

HOW Conference and Jelousy

Ξ October 31st, 2006 | → 0 Comments | ∇ unstable, News from the front |

The following is some information on the HOW Conference in Chicago taking place now through Wednesday. I’m jealous I’m not attending.
HOW Design Conference
Like HOW magazine, the HOW Design Conference recognizes that graphic design is a business as well as an art. HOW launched this annual event in 1991 with the goal of providing a hands-on, educational program to enable designers to better balance the three key components of graphic design: creativity, business and technology. Conference sessions cover a mix of these three critical design issues, with particular emphasis on creative and business topics.
Mind Your Own Business Conference
The Mind Your Own Business Conference is a bi-annual event sponsored by HOW magazine and ReCourses, Inc., a management consulting firm that works exclusively with small service providers in the communications industry. Together, HOW and ReCourses recognize making the transition from successful artist to successful businessperson can be challenging. At the Mind Your Own […]

screw this global warming

Ξ October 31st, 2006 | → 0 Comments | ∇ sanity adventures, News from the front, blind rage, political |

Why do people want to stop or slow global warning? To hell with this planet. lets move to another one. This one is a disaster and not worth saving. Saving it doesn’t save our species from extinction. We need to spread like rabbits over every rock in this galaxy. Our current plan of hiding on this little worthless ball is a sure-fire way to be destroyed.
